Pre-Planning & Packing Guide
A successful move starts well before moving day. Taking the time to organize, plan and pack properly can reduce stress, prevent damage and help your moving crew complete the job safely and efficiently. Rainforest Moving and Storage has prepared this guide to help customers understand what should be done in the weeks leading up to their move.
Begin by sorting through your belongings and deciding what will be moved, donated, sold or discarded. Packing items that are no longer needed creates unnecessary work and can increase the time and cost of the move. Once you know what is coming with you, gather suitable packing supplies and begin with items you use less frequently, such as decorations, books, seasonal clothing and storage-room contents.
Use strong moving boxes and avoid overloading them. Heavy items should be packed in smaller boxes, while lighter items such as bedding and cushions can be placed in larger boxes. Wrap fragile items individually, fill empty spaces to prevent movement and clearly label every box with its contents and the room where it belongs. Boxes containing delicate items should be marked “Fragile” on the top and sides.
Whenever possible, complete the majority of your packing before the movers arrive. Hallways, stairways and entrances should be kept clear, and appliances should be disconnected and prepared in advance. Important documents, medications, valuables, keys, chargers and anything needed immediately after the move should be kept separately and transported personally.
